The RRS Discovery was a barque-rigged auxiliary steamship that journeyed to the Antarctic on the famous Discovery Expedition. Launched in 1901, she was the last traditional three-masted wooden ship ever built in the United Kingdom. Initially serving as a merchant ship before and during WWI, Discovery was named the first Royal Research Ship of the British government in 1923. Her very first mission was the British National Antarctic Expedition, spearheaded by Robert Falcon Scott and Ernest Shackleton. On this pioneering voyage, Scott and Shackleton conducted key research into the oceans, marine life, and whale populations of the Antarctic. To this day, the RRS Discovery remains a powerful symbol of curiosity, ambition, and adventure.

It is a rigorously accurate reproduction of the original, whose ingenious ship design took the ship to far reaches of the world. Rosewood, mahogany, teak and other exotic woods are carefully selected to accent each part of the model. Painted in bold black, white, and red paint, it features three masts, intricate rigging, and fine details like miniature lifeboats, anchors, railings, netting, and more. This model comes on a wooden stand and with an ornate nameplate bearing the name of RRS Discovery.
